On September 19, 2019, Restore Global hosted its first Together Summit. Our idea was to bring together nonprofits who serve a similar group in our community and facilitate collaboration while determining their needs throughout the year.
Last year, through collaboration, Restore Global was able to distribute blankets to the entire homeless population of Charlotte during the Department of Housing and Urban Development's "point-in-time" count. Every displaced individual had the opportunity to receive blankets to keep themselves warm through the winter. This year, however, we wanted to see how we could do more for our community while better serving our partners. What better way accomplish both than to involve and consult with the nonprofits who serve our homeless population daily.
The night of the event, nonprofits from across Charlotte joined us for dinner, networking, and productive conversation. Nonprofit leaders spoke up, spoke out, and encouraged each other in their missions. Creativity flourished, and project ideas blossomed. At the end of the night, not only were we able to make new connections, but our guests made meaningful connections too.
When nonprofits work together, not only does efficient work ensue, but hope, encouragement, and happiness are inevitable.
We plan to create more collaborative events for all nonprofit sectors (partners or not) in the future, but for our first event, we're incredibly thankful for the collaboration, passion, and persistence of the wonderful nonprofits who attended.
